Surprisingly, the Dutch Football Association decided to
end the fierce fight in the Dutch league between Ajax
Amsterdam and Alkmaar, by canceling the season
completely.
The Dutch Football Association decided to abruptly
annul the Dutch League championship on Friday,
days after the country’s prime minister announced a
football ban until next September, due to the outbreak
of the Coruna virus.
With 9 rounds remaining at the end of the season,
and while Ajax Amsterdam equal points with Alkmaar
at the top of the ranking, the difficult decision to cancel
the season came.
With the season canceled, Ajax Amsterdam, who missed
the goal difference was denied the league title,
and Dutch clubs will now have to start their summer
break, before the start of next season in September.
The Dutch Confederation decided to cancel the
relegation and promotion process in the league,
as it will rely on the current arrangement to determine
the European Champions League and European League
champions.
The sudden decision by the Dutch league to ring the
alarm bell for teams in neighboring countries,
such as Liverpool, who fears the decision to cancel
the league because of Corona.
Unlike the Netherlands, Belgium has already canceled
the season, but with club leaders, Bruges awarded the
league title, without completing the remaining matches.
