With the approaching transfer of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez
to Juventus, a new obstacle has appeared to hinder the transfer
process, represented by residence and work procedures.
According to the newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport”, the
former Spanish League scorer will have to undergo a special
examination in Italy, to obtain residency and work visas.
Suarez did not need to undergo special procedures in Spain,
as his wife holds an Italian passport, which exempts him from
the “foreign resident” procedures, and gets the advantages of
a European citizen.
But in Italy, the laws differ, as a resident cannot obtain these
benefits thanks to his wife’s passport, and he will not receive
privileges and exemptions unless he is personally a citizen
of the European Union.
Accordingly, Suarez will have to take a residency and work
exam in order to obtain a work visa that allows him to play in Italy.
The news indicates that Suarez has agreed on all the conditions
with Juventus, and that he is only a few steps away from the
transfer to the Italian champion, but the transfer will not take
place without Suarez crossing the legal procedures.
