Manchester United advanced two places in the Premier League to become second after Marcus Rashford
scored at the end of stoppage time to lead them to a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
With this result, United raised its score to 30 points from 15 games, two points behind defending champions
and leaders Liverpool, who are visiting Newcastle United on Wednesday. Wolverhampton remained 12th
with 21 points.
Rashford led United to victory when the match seemed to be on its way to a 0-0 draw, as his shot hit the defender
Marawan Sayes and entered the goal in the near corner after a pass from Bruno Fernandes.
The visiting team squandered many opportunities in the first half after defeating United with their quick passes
from one touch, but the most dangerous opportunity came from the owners of the land when goalkeeper
Roy Patricio dismissed Fernandes’ attempt in the 34th minute.
Patricio also blocked a long-range shot from Paul Pogba in the 75th minute, and it appeared that Wolverhampton
had made enough to gain a point after facing United pressure in the final minutes.
But a seemingly insignificant game ultimately killed him, as Rashford received a Fernandez pass on the right and
in the absence of support inside the penalty area, the English international striker fired a shot that tricked
goalkeeper Patricio into the net.
