The Russian army conducted an experiment, on Friday, that involved spacecraft in orbit, in a move that sparked reservations by the United States.
The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement, that a small satellite separated from a carrier “space platform”, according to the “Associated Press”.
She added that the spacecraft carried pictures to assess the “technical situation” of another Russian satellite within the experiment.
The experiment was described as part of an ongoing effort to check satellite conditions.
US officials have expressed concern about previous Russian experiments with satellites, saying Moscow’s intentions are “unclear.”
The ministry had previously reported that the launch of the “Cosmos 2542” spacecraft on November 26, was a “multi-purpose space platform” to monitor satellites.
“Inspection” satellites were launched earlier for the same stated purpose and orbital experiments are being conducted.
