Thousands of Greek Olympiacos fans have defied the
authorities’ ban on large gatherings due to the new Corona
virus, to celebrate on Sunday the 45th title of their team in
the local soccer league.
Behind closed doors and empty strips, Olympiacos beat AEK
Athens 3-2 in the last round of the playoff round, in which
the identities of the champion and the teams participating in
the two continental competitions were determined (each of
the six teams that qualified for the playoff 10 games) ended
the season in the lead with 91 points, against PAOK Salonika.
Aik, who has the chance to take revenge on Olympiacos when
he faces next week in the cup final, finished the league in third
place with 69 points, and qualified for the “Europa League”
competition, where he begins his career from the third
preliminary round.
With his first title since 2017 and his succession to PAOK on
the podium, Olympiacos boosted his record number by winning
25 points from Panathinaikos, who was crowned last time in 2010.
“Olympiakos, the Portuguese coach, Pedro Martinez, was very
proud of our record in the league. We had a good season.
Congratulations to the team,” expecting a “different
confrontation with AEK in the cup final,” he said.
