The match between Juventus and Milan, in the second
leg of the Italian Football Cup semi-finals, on Friday
evening, broke the records with the number of views in
the country, with the return of football to Italy after
a pause due to the spread of the Corona pandemic.
More than 8 million viewers watched the Juventus and
Milan match, on “Ray Uno” channel, to be the highest
audience for this season’s soccer match in the country,
according to local press reports on Saturday.
This was the first match in Italy since the suspension of
all football competitions on the ninth of last March
due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus.
Although the game was devoid of goals, and some
described it as “boring”, especially in the second half,
it broke records for this season.
When Minister of Sports Vincenzo Spadafora gave
the green light to resume football, he insisted that
the remaining matches launched from the cup
competition, because they broadcasted for free
on television and thus more people will be able to
watch them.
Nearly 8.3 million viewers watched the match, which
ended in a goalless draw between Juventus and its guest
Milan, and subsequently crossed “Juventus” to the final
(1-1 back), on “Ray Uno”, the main channel of the “Ray”
group, or approximately 34 percent Of the total
viewership on Italian channels at the same time.
This percentage considered the highest this season for
any football match in Italy, after two cup semi-final
matches between “Old Lady” and “Rossoneri”
(8.09 million) and Inter Milan with Napoli (6.8 million),
which also broadcast by “Ray Ono”.
As for the national team, whose matches broadcast
the same channel, 7.4 million viewers followed the
Italian national team’s match with Bosnia in the
European Cup 2020 qualifiers in June 2019, which
achieved the highest viewership for the last season.
