Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane considered his team’s
victory in the Spanish first division football title on Thursday
better than any of the three titles in which he led the team to
the European Champions League title.
Real Madrid won their 34th league title by defeating Villarreal
2-1, after 10 consecutive victories since the resumption of
the season after three months of suspension, due to the Corona
virus pandemic.
After winning 11 title with Real Madrid as coach, the French
coach told Movistar Spain, his second with the team in the
league: “The Champions League is the Champions League
but the league title makes me happier because it depends
on everything.
“This is a tremendous feeling because what the players did was
amazing. There is nothing to say, I am very emotional.”
And perhaps the title win will not be described as the most
exciting for Real Madrid after it had been expected for weeks
, but Zidane, who won the same title as a player with the royal
team, did not reduce the achievement of his team.
“We were the best because we got the most points, and that’s all
there is to say. For me, this is one of my best days as a
professional.”
“It was the players who fought for this. Of course I did my job
but it was the players who believed in what they were doing.”
However, the celebration of the title was not usual, as Real was
crowned in front of empty stands at the stadium of Alfredo Di
Stefano, the training ground in light of the closure of the
Santiago Bernabeu due to the renovations.
The team will not make its usual round to the city center, with
restrictions to stop the spread of the Coruna virus.
“This is strange to everyone, and we wanted to celebrate with
the fans, but it is not destined to happen,” Zidane said.
“But I am sure everyone will feel happy in their homes tonight.
The fans wanted to watch the team win and we did it for them.”
