Briefly, The president of Atletico Madrid settles Ronaldo deal
Atlético de Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has settled the controversy
over the news that spoke of a possible deal for his team with Portuguese
star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cerezo said that the transfer of Manchester United star Ronaldo to
Atletico Madrid is “practically impossible”, according to the British newspaper, “Mirror”.
Speaking to the Spanish program El Partidazo de COPE, Cerezo explained:
“I don’t know who invented the story of Cristiano Ronaldo, it is definitely untrue news.”
Ronaldo arrived in Manchester late on Monday evening, and he may meet
with Dutch coach Ten Hag early Tuesday, as soon as the team’s team returns
to training after the club’s tour in Thailand and Australia.
The 37-year-old Portuguese star missed the first three weeks of the preparation
period, having taken leave due to a “family problem”, after telling United’s
management that he wanted to leave Old Trafford this summer.
It will be the first meeting between Ronaldo and Ten Hag, since the Portuguese
star asked to leave the team, and it may be a sign of Ronaldo’s acceptance of
the current situation, and submission to the reality of staying an additional
season in Manchester.
Ronaldo tried, through his agent, to move to one of the European clubs participating
in the Champions League, such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea or Atletico Madrid,
but his attempts were unsuccessful, and the transfer from European clubs was refused,
due to the high amounts that clubs must spend to sign the player.
